Muscular energy techniques for pelvis, spine and thorax course. MITCHELL’S MODEL

2022 - 2023

Presentation

This course presents a method of joint manipulation that allows the release of mechanical restrictions of the locomotive system, in this case trunk and pelvis, with specific low intensity adjustments, through isometric muscle contractions of the patient in a specific position for each mechanical injury.

This type of work is a tool that presents multiple advantages for application in the clinical practice of a physiotherapist, given that the specific positioning and postural control allows action in critical and disabling situations of spinal and pelvic pain, without there being any contraindications due to bone fragility or the age of the patient.

On the other hand, good training of the technique provides the professional with a better palpatory technique in tissue interpretation and greater manual perception, by which more precision is achieved in the interpretation of the loss of joint function and it is easier to correct it.

Methodology

The course includes a theoretical contents part and a practical part, in which the assistants will practise amongst themselves, adopting the role of “physiotherapist-patient”, the exploration and treatment techniques.

Objectives

General
To provide the physiotherapist with the necessary knowledge to be able to correctly apply the muscular energy techniques in the pelvis, spine and thorax.

Specific

  • To provide the theoretical contents that allow to understand the physiological and mechanical bases of the muscular energy techniques.
  • Show the execution of the manual therapy manoeuvres typical of the technique in the segments of the pelvis, spine and thorax.
  • To train the physiotherapist in the correct practical application of the manoeuvres.
  • To integrate the knowledge learned within the protocol of therapeutic approach of injuries to the pelvis, spine and thorax.

Course certificate

Certificate of attendance. Attendance must be accredited for 80% of the course hours.
